Also an article of General Perry M. Hoisington II, who spoke at a commencement exercise there; an honor to Andrew J. Hoisington. General Perry is related to Andrew "Andy" although it does not say how. General Hoisington was the legislative liaison of the Sec. Of Air Force at the Pentagon, Wash D.C. He was the son of Gregory Hoisington. He had three sons. In 1964 there ages were Gregory 20, Perry 17, and John 10. Does anyone know how Andrew and Perry are related? I know Andrew J. Hoisingtons parents were Albert and Elizabeth Limb Hoisington. Andrew was my dad?s uncle. Thanks for your information. Date: Mon, 8 Dec 1997 07:34:19 -0800 (PST) Hi, all. Found another one! As her e-mail kept bouncing, I have sent the following letter today. Harriette ========== December 7, 1997 Michelle Mossing #6 2295 West Broadway Vancouver BC Canada V6K 2E4 Dear Michelle, Sorry to take the slow way to contact you, but the e-mail address you posted on the Roots Surname List kept bouncing. I am a Horsington descendant. My 7th ggrandfather was John Horsington. I am just beginning to research Horsingtons in England, but have several early American Horsingtons in my database. There are also a couple of other Hoisington/Horsington descendants on the free online Hoisington Mailing List who are currently researching early American and English links. The following are the Horsingtons for whom we currently have information: 1) John Horsington - it was originally believed that there was but one John Horsington in America, but from various dates that we have been able to find for John Horsington there appears to be as many as three in America (1 in VA, 1 in both VA and Long Island NY, and 1 in CT and VT). The dates overlap and cover too many years to have been a single person. These may be an original immigrant, his son and grandson. 2) Thomas Horsington - Known to have been in VA in the late 1600s. Believed to have died before 1711 in Norfolk Co. VA. Unknown relationship to John 3) Benedictus Horsington, son of Thomas. No dates. Married Dinah Carraway, by whom he had four daughters: Sarah, Elizabeth, MaryAnn, and Dinah L. No sons mentioned in will. Two known descendants, one of whom is on the Hoisington Mailing List and in contact with the other, who has been researching Horsingtons for (I believe) twenty years. 4) David Horsington - known only by marriage record to Martha J. Carrington in VA in 1817. According to the records I have been searching, the Horsington name in New England gradually changed through various permutations to Hoisington. Hoisingtons from VT are known to have crossed the border for a period of time. Are you also researching Hoisingtons? I noticed that they were not listed when I requested a list of "all surnames searched by this person" on the RSL. I have a database of more than 5500 Hoisington-related names. In any case, you are more than welcome to join the Hoisington Mailing List whether or not you are still online. I would be happy to mail you the postings. I have also seen a Hoisington newsletter put out in New Brunswick. If you do not already receive it, I would be glad to put you in touch. I was curious about this because I was just in Ann Arbor a couple of months ago and saw a lake north of Ann Arbor as my kid (Ian, age 31 and a listmember now) and I were driving back from the UMICH north campus to town. I looked in my atlas for the lake and it wasn't labeled. Could that be the one? I would like for Ian to take a picture of Hoisington Lake before he moves back to CA (probably in Jan.). At first I thought this remote, but have come to believe that because names were written as spoken and accents varied a lot and "H"s and "G"s were dropped, (AND censustakers were not always the best at spelling OR writing) that the following MAY be variations and should not be overlooked as possibilities: Ocington Ossington Ossenton Orsington Issington Issenton Arsington Assington Harsenton Hasenton Haseltine Hazeltine Esseltin Esselton Esseltine ====================================================================================== From: harriette jensen Subject: HOISINGTON_MAILING_LIST - Msg #25 - Andrew Jackson Hoisington Date: Wed, 17 Dec 1997 07:22:21 -0800 (PST) Hi, Sandy. Haven't been entirely flaking off (Christmas, working, flu, out of town). Did some surfing on some of the alternative spellings tonight and came up with the following tidbits: 1) Found an Addison Hassington who served in the 4th Michigan Infantry, Company F, during the Civil War. Anyone know if/how he's related? By the way, there were several married-in surnames on the roster. Be glad to do a lookup. 2) Found "Hasselton R.C. e. 5/21/1861, died 1/12/1862 at Quincy" in a listing for THIRD INFANTRY FROM BLACK HAWK COUNTY, IOWA - Company K (Civil War). I have a copy of the history of their battles. 3) From the 2nd Ohio Volunteers: COMBS, Robert M. Co. C 25 Private (For Birdie) HOSSINGTON, John G. Co. A 20 Corporal 4) From Alphabetical Index of Civil War Veterans of Chautauqua County (NY): COMBS, James, Mina, CC-123 HORSINGTON (Hoyington, Hoysington), Jackson, Arkwright, CC-1 5) From the 1883 Schedule of Pensioners, Chatuaqua Co., NY: Sept. 1869, File #115804, Hoisington Jackson, Laona (Post Office), gun shot wound left foot, $2.00 BTW, all of these lists also contained surnames that are in my database as married-ins. If you need a lookup, feel free. ====================================================================================== From: harriette jensen Subject: HOISINGTON_MAILING_LIST - Msg#27 - Albert Hosington - NEW Date: Mon, 29 Dec 1997 23:30:53 -0800 (PST) Hi, All. Their children: Celestine Hosington (b 9 July 1844 Hastings Oswego., NY; d. 21 Sep 1848 Hastings, Oswego Co., NY) Sylvester Hosington (b. 25 Jan 1846 Hastings, Oswego Co., NY; d. 4 May 1865 Alexandria, Arlington Co., VA). He was a union soldier. Clark Hosington (b. 26 Oct 1847 Hastings, Oswego Co., NY; d. 23 Sep 1848 Hastings, Oswego Co., NY) Cornelia and the two children all died within two weeks of each other, possibly some infectious disease. I have no death date for Albert, so I assume he and Sylvester were survivors of the epidemic. ====================================================================================== From: harriette jensen Subject: HOISINGTON_MAILING_LIST - Msg #28 - Bits and Pieces Date: Tue, 30 Dec 1997 23:44:00 -0800 (PST) Hi, All.
