From: harriette jensen Subject: [HOISINGTON-L] Msg#98-29 William A.J. Hoisington's Farm Date: Tue, 3 Feb 1998 00:01:01 -0800 (PST) Hi, all. Speaking of photos...I spent several hours preparing several pages of pictures of "everyday life on the William A. J. Hoisington farm in 1900" for my Logan County OK USGenWeb site yesterday. These are pictures that my grandmother had and were the impetus to doing genealogy. I was about to upload them and update the Logan County page, when I decided to check my e-mail first. Good thing I did! There has been a running discussion of trains in Logan County and I mentioned that W.A.J.'s daughter, Bessie, had mentioned going 2 miles to Yewed to pick up the mail at the train station. I had assumed that Yewed was another of those "Oklahoma Ghost Towns" I'm always running into. Turns out that Yewed may not be in Logan County after all, but in Alfalfa County OK. Well, the long and the short of it is.... I can't put them on my Logan County page OR send them to the Alfalfa County page until I prove the farm's location one way or another....so, later on tonight, I will be uploading them "unconnected" to my web page, but viewable. So if you want to see them, they will be at the following URLs for at least a week. They are jpgs, but large files (some are in the 3-600K range). ; Overview of the hops fields and pastures ; Harvesting wheat (or alfalfa!) with a horse-drawn thresher (I counted over 20 horses) ; The extended OK Hoisington clan (including some of my direct line) harvesting one of the main ingredients in beer ; A picture of the day's catch on a fishing expedition (two clotheslines full!) ; A picture of my g-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Hatfield Hoisington, and several of W.A.J.'s children salting fish to preserve it William A.J. is already on my Logan County page, and can be seen at ;. He looks sorta like Santa Claus. Enjoy! Well, I'm back.... at least temporarily. I will have to go to Seattle next Monday and Tuesday on business. But here's something for those of you with Athens Co. OH connections to read while I'm gone. I received this this week and it filled in bunches of holes and gave me all sorts of new names (and even families!) All names listed below are Hoisingtons unless otherwise noted. Also, remember that these are typed from a transcript. If you have different dates for any of these, please let me know and I will verify the transcript with my source. Also, If you have any questions as to which "Will" or "Kate" or "Emma" a particular item refers to, I will be glad to let you know if I've figured it out. Enjoy.
