GENERAL CHANGES 1) Just about every day I do a little research on Hoisingtons and/or Horsingtons, which I gather into a file call Gleanings_. I try to post the information the same day, but sometimes it's not clear which "george hoisington" it belongs to or I don't have anyone by the name in the database. I delete all the posted information and put the remaining file in Gleanings folder. Periodically, I go through them and see if new information in the database makes the info identifiable. While the majority of the "gleanings" is vital info, some of it is my favorite part of genealogy....the stories. The reason I mention this is because there may be changes to almost any person, including spouses and in-laws, made at any time. The "What's New?" link on the main page will list all persons who have had changes made in the last 30 days. A once-a-month check should catch any changes to your ancestors. 2) I have had many new users register for the site this month. I noticed that there were some errors in the coding of permissions to some of your accounts and have corrected them. You should all now be able to download gedcoms and suggest changes and additions to any individual or family. If you cannot now, or in the future, do this, please let me know at hjensen@okcomputer.org and I will check your account. 3) Last month, I mentioned that I would be adding the findagrave.com information to the website. I was biting off a bit more than I could chew in just a month . I have copied all the information and the tombstone pictures, but it will take me a bit longer to add them all to the website (some have been added). In addition, I found some information that conflicted with what I already have and will have to search for another source to verify which one is correct. In the meantime, if you have a need for this information, I will be happy to check for you. 4) I added many new people, including several new Hoisingtons and Horsingtons. We just passed the 16 thousand mark for individuals in the database. CHANGES BY STATE MI Added 1910 census information to Michigan families. NY Added "color stories for Amos and Ariel Hoisington in Oswego County. ID Added all known burials in ID, whether or not they have headstone pictures. I plan to do this for all the states. If anyone would like to volunteer to take pictures of the headstones in an area near them, let me know and I'll make it a priority so that they can get started ENGLAND I came across a great website, British History Online , and have been searching for Horsingtons . One of the Horsingtons I came across was a Giles Horsington. This is actually the 2nd Giles Horsington I found, but this one was involved in Penruddock's Rising, an insurrection against Cromwell and the Reformation, and who was hung for his efforts. In reading the journals of a court called the Star Chamber, I found that all those tales of "drawn and quartered" in books and movies weren't kidding. some of the punishments for even minor offenses could, depending on the mood of the judge, merit cutting off of ears or slitting of noses. Oooooo, just reading about it is painful! QUERIES No additional queries from me this time, but I'm still looking for the info in the May newsletter. That's all for this month. Write me if you have questions or need help or suggestions in your research. Harriette hjensen@okcomputer.org
